Isabella VanBuren

Isabella VanBuren

2018 Scholarship Winner

Excerpt from Bella’s recommendation letter:

She is simply one of my ‘Go To’ students in this great high school. She is also a high-level athlete who has been running competitively her entire life… She has also been a leader on our class council in her time at BHS, leading committees on those councils! Finally, Bella has taken it upon herself to start a committee in NHS called the Military Appreciation Committee! SHE led this initiative and she has solicited support from our School Board, local organizations and me to support her club and its goals of celebrating our men and women in service.. she cares about what is right, not about what is popular. She is involved in many, many activities and still has found time to do new things that benefit the greater good. She is an incredibly involved and compassionate person who gives her time and self to help others! Most importantly, she is a mature and moral young woman who is always smiling, always an adult and always caring for others first!

Bella received $5,000 as our 2018 scholarship recipient.

Hailey Iglewski

2017 Scholarship Recipient

School is going great, I made Deans list last semester and am doing really well again this semester. Other than academics, I am playing polo for Michigan State. Polo is quite different from the type of riding I am used to, but it is a blast.

This past summer I studied abroad in New Zealand and learned about environmental sustainability. Learning about the environment, history, and culture of New Zealand was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.

Last October, I ended up competing in the Grand National and World Championship Morgan Horse Show for the second time. I placed second in Nationals and sixth Worlds.

Hailey received $5,000 as a 2017 scholarship recipient.

My sophomore year at MIT has been busy but exciting so far. My volleyball team made it to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament, and recently I have decided to switch my major to computer science, economics and data science. I have been given so many great opportunities at MIT, like being able to spend this past January taking a class in Madrid. I am grateful that the yoga strong scholarship helped make MIT a reality for me.

Veronica received $1,500 as a 2016 scholarship winner.

Alyssa Guadagni

Alyssa Guadagni

2016 Scholarship Recipient

I am currently a sophomore at Michigan State University and I am double majoring in kinesiology and dietetics, with a cognate in exercise physiology.

Outside of my studies, I am interning for the Head Sports Dietitian here at MSU, and I am an employee at the University gym. For my internship, it is my job to assist the Head Sports Dietitian with food preparation and organization, answer any questions student-athletes may have in regards to nutrition and supplementation, and advocate the importance of proper nutrition. Outside of work and school I still am very active with my yoga practice and am constantly working on developing new skills. Yoga plays a very important role in my life because it helps me destress and clear my head. Being presented as one of the first recipients of the Knuth Family Foundation Scholarship is a memory I will always cherish.

I am truly amazed by this foundations generosity, and the community that helps build it. I am very proud to represent such an inspiring foundation, and could not be more grateful for everything they have done to help me start my college career.

Alyssa received a $1,500 scholarship in 2016.

Zoe Dittman

Zoe Dittman

2016 Sponsorship Recipient

I’m in my second year at MSU and I’m double majoring in saxophone performance and computer engineering in their Honors College.

I have a research job at MSU that I’ve had for around 2 years, I analyze and run pre-processing on fMRI scans. I am currently researching the linkage between anxiety and brain structure. I am Tenor saxophonist for Spectra Quartet: we performed at Navy Band Symposium in Washington DC in January, were selected as 1/20 semifinalists out of all collegiate quartets in North America (including graduate students and doctoral students, we are all undergrad) for the North American Saxophone Alliance (NASA, yes it’s an amusing acronym).

We will be traveling to Cincinnati over spring break to compete further! This past summer I went on a 10-day camping trip in the Appalachian Mountains this summer, summited Mount Mitchell (highest peak east of the Mississippi River).

Zoe received $1,500 as a 2016 scholarship recipient.
